Crowds inspire man who came into tournament with one of the worst recent Open records

Ten minutes after Shane Lowry left the 18th green boisterous chants of “Ole, Ole, Ole” boomed from the spectator village. When they glimpsed him walking from one media engagement to the next, they roared for his attention and they roared again when he gave it. Lowry was beaming. He didn’t try to deny the thrill or hide behind his game face or wonder about best practice for the leader of The Open. He smiled on all who smiled on him.
