Jennifer Garner is putting her health first.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the 47-year-old actress shared a video of her annual mammogram appointment on Instagram, in hopes of encouraging other women to get checked out.
“Every October I have a standing date. For a mammogram. For me, having the appointment on the books makes it routine, like the dentist,” she wrote. “I know it’s scary, sisters, but just do it – the next best thing to an all clear is early detection.”
The playful video showed Garner goofing around at the doctor’s office during her procedure at Santa Monica’s LSG Imaging – doodling animals on her medical chart, blowing up latex gloves and keeping her check-up lighthearted with goofy faces.

In the caption, Garner added the hashtag “I don’t take my clear test for granted,” before sending her personal well wishes to those currently facing breast cancer.
“To everyone in the thick of the battle – respect and love and strength to you,” she added.
According to the American Cancer Society, a mammogram “can often find or detect breast cancer early, when it’s small and even before a lump can be felt. This is when it’s easiest to treat.” The health organization added that “only 2 to 4 screening mammograms in 1,000 lead to a diagnosis of breast cancer.”
