Another one down: Yankees' James Paxton leaves after three innings with knee injury – SNY.tv

The Yankees just can’t catch a break.

They’ve got another injured player as James Paxton left Friday’s game in the Bronx after just three innings with soreness in his left knee. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and three walks while throwing 64 pitches. He’s scheduled for an MRI on Saturday.

Jonathan Holder came in to replace Paxton for the fourth inning.

If Paxton is out for a significant period of time, it would be a huge blow to a starting rotation already missing Luis Severino, and it would come at a time when the Yankees were starting to get some good news on a few of their many injured stars.

Paxton was the Yankees’ prized offseason acquisition, getting him in a trade with Seattle while giving up a package that included top pitching prospect Justus Shieffield

The southpaw was supposed to help fortify the Yankees’ rotation and provide a strong one-two punch with Severino. But Severino was diagnosed with rotator cuff inflammation in spring training and then a lat injury which will keep him out until the summer.

The Yanks have CC SabathiaMasahiro TanakaJ.A. Happ and Domingo German in their rotation. They’ll have to find a way to patch things together without Paxton, whose absence would be a huge concern.
